Something Extra
Natural Sea Sponges Let me start out by saying that I am simply in love with these sponges! They look fabulous sitting in the bath (oh so natural---organic looking!), but more important is how they perform. With ever so gentle exfoliation, they softly stimulate circulation--lifting away dead cells and surface impurities. Skin is left with clarity and a glow, naturally.
Does the harvest of sea sponges put the colonies of sponges at risk of depletion? Well, the answer is NO. When the sponges are harvested, the part that remains ( the bottom part of the sponge), starts to grow a new sponge. But in addition to this, the action of cutting the sponge, releases plentiful larvae from the sponge. These "babies" if you will, then float around, renew the colony, and produce even more sponges! So in truth, the act of sponge harvest, aids their reproduction.....increases their colonies....and in no way depletes the sponge.
Another side note on the sponge harvest. We purchase our sponges from Tarpon Springs, Florida. It has been said that this is the best location for natural sponges. We certainly have been satisfied.
